In Norse mythology, the prophesied apocalypse known as Ragnarok is marked by the emergence of three formidable creatures: Garm, Fenrir, and Jörmungandr. Known collectively as the “End Times Trio,” these monstrous beings are destined to play pivotal roles in the eventual destruction and rebirth of the world.

Garm, the Giant Watchdog of Hel

  • Role: As the guardian of Hel, the Norse underworld, Garm will play a crucial part in the events leading up to Ragnarok.
  • Characteristics: A massive wolf with a frightening appearance, Garm is said to have four eyes and breath that is deadly poisonous.

Fenrir, the Monstrous Wolf

  • Role: Bound by the gods until Ragnarok, Fenrir will be instrumental in bringing about the end of the world.
  • Characteristics: With immense strength and an insatiable hunger for battle, Fenrir is destined to consume Odin during the final conflict.

Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent

  • Role: Jörmungandr, also known as the World Serpent, will play a significant role in Ragnarok by causing violent storms and sea monster uprisings.
  • Characteristics: Huge in size, Jörmungandr is described as encircling Midgard, the world of humans, and is destined to battle Thor during Ragnarok.
